Breaking Down the Funnel
Dial-to-appointment is the product of two sub-rates: dial-to-contact and contact-to-appointment. If your contact rate is 28% (about 1 in 4 dials reaches a live person) and your contact-to-appointment rate is 6%, your dial-to-appointment rate is 28% x 6% = 1.68%.
Improving either sub-rate improves the overall. Better data improves contact rate. Better scripts and caller skill improve contact-to-appointment. Measure both to know where to focus.
What Drives Contact Rate
List freshness matters. A skip trace that is six months old has more disconnected and reassigned numbers than one pulled last week. Scrub for litigators and DNC before dialing.
Time of day and day of week also affect contact rate. Late afternoon and early evening typically outperform mid-morning for residential numbers. Test your market and track results by time slot.

Script quality is the obvious lever, but caller empathy and objection handling matter more. A robotic read of a great script underperforms a natural delivery of an average one.
Call purpose clarity helps. The prospect should know within 15 seconds why you are calling and what you want. Vague intros waste time and erode trust.
When 1.7% Is Good or Bad
1.7% on a warm list (recently motivated, recent contact, known interest) is mediocre. You should be above 3%. 1.7% on a cold, untouched list is respectable. Context sets the bar.
Also consider appointment quality. A 3% rate that produces tire-kickers is worse than a 1.5% rate that produces ready-to-sign sellers. Track show rate and contract rate downstream.
Improving Your Rate
A/B test scripts. Record calls (with consent) and review for training. Use local presence dialing to improve answer rates. Segment lists by motivation level and adjust expectations accordingly.
Set realistic session goals. If your team averages 1.7%, expect 1-2 appointments per 100 dials. Running 200 dials a day puts you at 2-4 appointments daily per caller. Plan capacity around those numbers.
