What Is SPF, DKIM, DMARC?
SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are three DNS-based email authentication standards that prove an email claiming to come from your domain actually was sent by a system you authorized, and getting all three configured correctly is table stakes for any outbound program that wants to land in the inbox.

SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are three DNS-based email authentication standards that prove an email claiming to come from your domain actually was sent by a system you authorized, and getting all three configured correctly is table stakes for any outbound program that wants to land in the inbox.
SPF, DKIM, DMARC explained
SPF, Sender Policy Framework, publishes which mail servers are allowed to send email on your domain's behalf. DKIM, DomainKeys Identified Mail, attaches a cryptographic signature to each message proving it was not altered in transit and really came from an authorized sender. DMARC, Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance, tells receiving mail servers what to do with a message that fails SPF or DKIM, quarantine it, reject it, or let it through, and can send you reports on authentication failures so you can see what is happening to your domain's mail.
Mailbox providers have tightened enforcement of these standards, and category research documented what happens when authentication and sending practices break down together: deliverability collapsing from over 90% inbox placement to under 60% within four weeks once a sending program loses trust, per one industry analysis. Getting SPF, DKIM, and DMARC configured correctly before a campaign starts, not after deliverability has already dropped, is the cheapest insurance available against that outcome.
None of these three standards is optional in practice anymore. A domain missing even one, most commonly a missing or misconfigured DMARC record, is exposed to filtering that a correctly configured domain simply does not face.
Why it matters when you're buying
If an outbound vendor is sending from your domain, confirm they have SPF, DKIM, and DMARC properly configured before the first send, not after replies stop coming in. A missing or misconfigured DMARC record in particular is one of the fastest ways a domain's outbound email ends up filtered before a prospect ever sees it.
