What "AI SDR" Actually Means, and Why the Backlash Matters
An AI SDR tool runs outbound outreach, and sometimes qualification and scheduling, with little or no human involvement in the individual conversation. That is a real, growing category with real venture funding behind it (11x raised a $24 million Series A from Benchmark and a $50 million Series B from a16z). It is also a category with a documented, sourced trust problem, not a rumored one: a national tech-press investigation, a federal enforcement action, and industry-wide churn data all point the same direction.
This page tracks that record factually, tool by tool and event by event, with every figure linked to its primary source. Nothing here is a competitor smear. Every claim is either a vendor's own published price, a named journalist's reporting, or a named regulator's public settlement.
Where VA Horizon Sits in This Picture
VA Horizon does not sell an AI SDR product and does not describe its own service that way. Meetings are booked by Human + AI SDRs: trained humans hold and manage every conversation over SMS, and AI supports the system behind them (targeting, drafting, and workflow), not the other way around. A separate finding from this same research: a direct sample of the 2026-dated "AI SDR versus human SDR" search results returned content-marketing and AI-tooling-adjacent sites almost exclusively, not any of the established human appointment-setting agencies reviewed for VA Horizon's category research. That is an open, largely uncontested position in the search results, and the numbers below are the honest, sourced version of that argument.
The Numbers
AiSDR prices its entry tier at $900 a month for 1,200 messages, billed quarterly ($2,700 upfront), scaling to $2,500 or more a month at higher volume.
AiSDR holds a 4.7 out of 5 rating across 76 G2 reviews, with all 15 detailed reviewers recommending it, the strongest reputation of any AI SDR tool reviewed in this research.
Artisan (Ava) is priced at roughly $2,000 a month.
11x (Alice) is priced at roughly $5,000 a month, the highest sticker price of the tools reviewed here.
Relevance AI is priced free to $349 a month, the lowest entry point of the tools reviewed here.
A TechCrunch investigation published March 24, 2025 reported that ZoomInfo, shown on 11x's site as a customer, stated on the record it never authorized use of its logo, was not an 11x customer, and threatened legal action alleging deceptive trade practices, trademark infringement, and false advertising.
The same investigation reported that Airtable's brief 2023 trial, described by former 11x employees as never used in production, was still displayed as a live customer logo on 11x's site as of the investigation's publish date, and that former employees described 70% to 80% customer churn within three months against ARR figures that counted full contract value regardless.
The FTC settled with Air AI (formerly Air.ai) in March 2026 for a judgment of approximately $18 million and a permanent ban on marketing "business opportunities," following a complaint the agency filed in August 2025.
A secondary industry analysis, citing UserGems and Coldreach data alongside its own testing, puts AI SDR contract cancellation at 50% to 70% within 90 days, roughly double documented human SDR turnover, with hallucination rates of 12% to 20% or higher across the vendors it tested (industry estimate).
The same analysis reports deliverability commonly collapsing from above 90% inbox placement to under 60% by week four of a campaign, with reply rates falling from 4% to 6% down to 0.5% to 1.5%, and real cost per meeting reported to rise from around $35 to $150 to $300 over that same stretch (industry estimate).
A Coldreach review cited within that same analysis reports a 12% to 18% hallucination rate specifically for AiSDR, with customer complaints clustering in the second month of use (industry estimate).
