Industry data puts the no-show rate at 30 to 40% even for paid leads, implying a 60 to 70% show rate.

Leads or appointments needed per install 15.4
Aged Leads preset: priced within the published Aged Lead Store / Invention Solar aged-lead range ($0.17 to $3.00 by age tier), at the AgentZap-cited 8 to 12% general lead-to-close band. That figure is single-source and directional.
Exclusive Leads preset: priced within the $80 to $150 fresh-cluster range found across multiple exclusive solar lead vendors, at the industry-estimated 25 to 35% exclusive close-rate band.
VA Horizon preset: VA Horizon's published $249 flat rate per booked appointment, paired with the same 25 to 35% exclusive close-rate band. This is not a VA Horizon performance guarantee.

Three numbers, one division.

This tool runs one calculation with two conversion stages: how many of a lead or appointment show up for a real conversation, and how many of those shows turn into an install.

Cost per installed system

Price divided by show rate times close rate. A $1.00 aged lead at 65% show and 10% close costs $1.00 ÷ 0.065, or about $15.38 per install.

Leads or appointments needed

The inverse of show rate times close rate. At 65% and 10%, you need 1 ÷ 0.065, or about 15.4, on average to land one install.

Why show rate is separate

Close rate alone hides how many leads or appointments never even reach a live conversation. Splitting out show rate makes that cost visible instead of buried inside one blended number.

Aged leads and exclusive leads are raw contact records: show rate here represents how many actually turn into a live, qualified conversation, and close rate represents how many of those conversations become an install. For VA Horizon's booked appointments, the appointment itself is already scheduled and double-confirmed, so show rate represents the appointment's own show-up rate rather than a cold-contact rate.

This calculator will not always show VA Horizon as the cheapest option. At the low end of aged-lead pricing, a $0.17 to $1.00 lead can post a lower cost per install on paper than a $249 appointment, even at a lower close rate, because the raw unit price is so much lower. What that low price does not capture is the volume of dead numbers and already-sold records behind it, which is exactly what the show-rate slider is built to let you model honestly.

Cost per install, answered.

How is cost per installed system calculated?
Cost per installed system is price per lead or appointment, divided by your show rate multiplied by your close rate. A $1.00 aged lead at a 65% show rate and a 10% close rate costs about $15.38 per install, because you need roughly 15.4 of them on average to land one.
What is a realistic close rate for aged solar leads?
AgentZap's solar lead statistics put general lead-to-close conversion at roughly 8 to 12 percent on average, with top performers reaching 15 percent or higher. That figure is single-source and directional, not a controlled industry study, so treat it as a starting point rather than a guarantee for aged leads specifically.
What is a realistic close rate for exclusive solar leads or appointments?
Industry-estimated figures put exclusive, already-qualified solar leads and appointments at roughly 25 to 35 percent close rate, well above the 8 to 12 percent general benchmark, consistent with AgentZap's finding that exclusive leads convert meaningfully better than shared or aged ones.
Is VA Horizon always the cheapest option per install?
No, and this calculator will show you that honestly. At the low end of aged-lead pricing, the sheer cheapness of a single lead can produce a lower cost per install on paper than a $249 booked appointment, even at a lower close rate. What the aged-lead price does not capture is the volume of unreachable, disconnected, or already-sold records you have to buy through to find that close, which this calculator lets you model by adjusting the show rate.
What is show rate and why does it matter?
Show rate is the percentage of leads or appointments that turn into an actual live conversation or kept appointment, as opposed to going unanswered or no-showing. Industry data puts the no-show rate at 30 to 40 percent even for paid leads, which is why this calculator treats show rate as a separate factor from close rate instead of folding it into a single number.
